Shashi Tharoor laments over Kochi Tuskers Kerala’s demise – Cricket News Update
Shashi Tharoor, the former Indian minister, has termed Kochi Tuskers Kerala’s ouster from the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) as a severe blow to the cricketing and economic development of the state.
The politician, who was one of the key organisers of the franchise, has revealed that the Kochi state is always marginalised in domestic cricket, creating feelings of deprivation among the inhabitants.
According to him, KTK’s inclusion in the high-profile 20-over tournament had attracted the local and foreign investors to invest in the infrastructural and industrial developments of the backward state. He fears that this sudden demise of the team will put
a full-stop before the entire developmental process is completed.
Talking to the media, Tharoor said, “That investors from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Maharashtra-c811 were persuaded to team up to bring their venture to Kerala was, to my mind, proof that Kerala too could attract outsiders to invest in our future.”
He further told, “http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kumar-Shri-Ranjitsinhji-c71870 Trophy Plate League. Where does it fit in to the grand narrative of Indian cricket? It was a footnote at best. I saw Kochi Tuskers Kerala as a venture that
would not just boost the prospects of Kerala's cricketers.”
The Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Srinivasan-c90829, took this stern
action along with dumping all chances of the team’s comeback.
The KTK was one of the two teams which staged their debut in the IPL-4, raising the numbers of participants to 10. In the 74-match long tournament, the Tuskers played 14 poll games, winning six and losing 8. The side was led by the Sri Lankan opener, Mahela
Jayawardene.
The ostracised players are not ready to accept their ‘undue’ termination silently as they have decided to drag the BCCI to the court of law. However, the board has announced that the interests of the franchise’s cricketers will be saved.
