Shashi Tharoor willing to help IPL Kochi sort differences
Shashi Tharoor has said to the media that his wife Sunanda Pushkar was no longer a part of the IPL Kochi group after returning all her stake to the promoters. The IPL Kochi team is currently embroiled in a controversy over the ownership and have been served
a notice by the Indian cricket board, asking them to form a company and decide on who of their five stakeholders is the owner.
Tharoor said, "She (Pushkar) was in the promotional group initially. But after a controversy broke out, she returned all her shares,"
Tharoor also added that he would love to assist the consortium in overcoming their issues and ensure that they remain a part of the IPL. He said that the problems had arisen due to the differences between the members of the consortium and once that was sorted
the focus should be on ensuring that the team does well in the next edition of the tournament. He said, “ Though I do not have personal involvement in the consortium, I am ready to help and have talked with some owners in the group over phone,"
Earlier, even the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kerala-c803 Cricket Association said they would like to have a talk with the Kochi franchise owners and help in solving the problems plaguing the side. Kochi had become the second costliest team in the IPL by winning the bid for a sum of $333.3
million.
The fiasco that the Indian Premier League finds itself in started after the erstwhile chairman of IPL, Lalit Modi, revealed over Twitter that Kochi had given away free equity to Pushkar. It was later revealed that Pushkar was a close aide of a Member of Parliament
and the then-Union Minister of State for External Affairs Tharoor. This led to a string of events, which included the resignation of Tharoor from his post and the suspension of Modi from the IPL Governing Council. Modi has yet to make his comeback into the
IPL since then. Pushkar recently married Tharoor.
