Shaun Burnett claims Men’s 200m butterfly gold – 2013 NZ Open Championships
Shaun Burnett of North Shore Swimming claimed gold medal of the Men’s 200m butterfly on third day of the 2013 NZ Open Championships in Westwave Aquatic Centre, Auckland, on Wednesday, March 20.
Burnett showed no mercy to his opponents in the distant butterfly discipline and cruised his way towards the finishing end for gold medal. With his impeccable pace, Burnett faced no difficulty from his closest swimmer and stepped on the podium for gold medal.
The 22-year-old Burnett enjoyed a considerable lead over his toughest competitor and transpired on the finishing end for first position with the timing of 1 minute and 58.77 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Isaac Foote of Capital Swim Club, who remained almost three seconds behind and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 01.70 seconds for silver medal.
The second fastest swimmer was followed by Bradlee Ashby of Fairfield Swimming Club, who was 3.23 seconds apart and surfaced on the finishing end for bronze medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 04.93 seconds.
Fourth finest spot of the race was obtained by Chris Dawson of Enterprise Cars SwimTeam and Liam Albery of Capital Swim Club, who engaged each other in a head-to-head race for fourth position. Both swimmers tried hard to overpower each other over the finishing
end and clocked an effort 2 minutes and 04.96 seconds.
Sixth finest spot of the event was secured by Wilrich Coetzee of Coast Swim Club, who was significantly away from his preceding swimmer and hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 06.70 seconds.
Seventh fastest spot of the race was obtained by Adam Simpson of Neptune Swimming Club, who stayed marginally slower from his foregoing finisher and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 06.87 seconds.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Alex Cox of Waterhole Swimming Club Inc, who ended his race in last place by posting a time of 2 minutes and 10.03 seconds.
Furthermore, Burnett was happy with his top finish in the race and collected accolades at the victory ceremony of the tournament after the session.
