Shaun Burnett grabs Men’s 200m butterfly gold – 2013 NZ Open Championships
Shaun Burnett of North Shore Swimming grabbed gold medal of the Men’s 200m butterfly on day two of the 2013 NZ Open Championships in Westwave Aquatic Centre, Auckland, on Tuesday, March 19.
Burnett showed no mercy to his challengers in the distant butterfly discipline and made his way towards the finishing. With his commendable pace, he remained prominently ahead of his closest swimmer and surfaced on the finishing end for first position.
He enjoyed a lead of three body lengths over his toughest challenger and transpired on the finishing end for gold medal with the timing of 1 minute and 58.77 seconds.
The champion was followed by Isaac Foote of Capital Swim Club, who stayed nearly three seconds slower and emerged on the wall for silver medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 01.70 seconds.
Third fastest spot of the race was obtained by Bradlee Ashby of Fairfield Swimming Club, who stayed 3.23 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 04.93 seconds.
Fourth position of the event was obtained by Chris Dawson of Enterprise Cars SwimTeam and Liam Albery of Capital Swim Club, who failed to secure third position on the podium. Both swimmers tried hard to escape each other over the finishing end but remained
0.03 seconds apart and hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes 04.96 seconds.
Sixth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Wilnich Coetzee of Coast Swim Club, who was 1.74 seconds apart and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 06.70 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was obtained by Adam Simpson of Neptune Swimming, who was 0.17 seconds apart and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 06.87 seconds.
Eighth position of the race was obtained by Alex Cox of Waterhole Swimming Club, who concluded his race in a time of 2 minutes and 10.03 seconds.
Furthermore, Burnett received massive appreciation from the crowd for his impeccable pace and was invited on the medal rostrum for awards and accolades at the prize distribution ceremony of the event.
