Shaun Marcum gives 2-1 win to Brewers against Los Angeles Dodgers
Shaun Marcum sparked splendidly on Monday (May 16, 2011) night to pitch 7 strong innings in a game that gave Milwaukee Brewers another eagerly awaited 2-1 victory against Los Angeles Dodgers.
Coming off with an impressive three-game sweep against Pittsburgh Pirates, Brewers maintained their dominance over the game since the start.
The only worry was probably the pitching for the team manager. Brewer manager, Ron Roenicke, was concerned about it in the last game:
"It almost looked like he ran out of gas. The pitches weren't as sharp. The fastball, even though the velocity was OK on some of them, it just didn't have that life to them".
Marcum, who pitched with rapidly fast speed, gave up five hits and one run in the seven innings that he pitched. It is worthwhile to remember that Marcum has only lost only once since his April 2 debut for Milwaukee Brewers.
Marcum successfully incapacitated and retired three hitters of Los Angeles Dodgers to ensure a good pitching spell.
Dodgers have had a tough season, losing 23 of their games and winning only 19. This probably stands as one of the biggest reasons fans have kept away from Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles.
Of the last 16 games played here, it has only twice attracted 40,000 spectators. Other than that, Monday’s game brought 35,346 spectators, which make up 63% of the total capacity the ground has.
Prince Fielder laid the foundation for a Brewer victory in the third innings with a single. Fielder singled to centre where Carlos Gomez scored to give an early lead to Milwaukee Brewers. But Matt Kemp was quick enough to break this lead and tie the score
in the fourth inning when Shaun Marcum came for pitching on Dodgers’ behalf.
The game then saw a tie. But Rickie Weeks was there to break the tiebreaking and winning score for Brewers in the sixth inning. Once Rickie Weeks singled to left, Brewers pitchers ensured limiting the Dodgers’ hitters.
Kameron Loe and John Axford pitched shutout 8th and 9th innings to pave the way for a 2-1 victory for Brewers against Los Angeles Dodgers.
