Shaun Marsh eyes Test spot in Australian side – Cricket News Update
Australia’s left-handed batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SE-Marsh-c2470, has said that he loves limited overs cricket but now he wants to make a mark in the longer version of the sport.
The left-handed opener has had an injury prone career so far, however, he has done exceedingly well in limited overs cricket for Australia, and also in the different seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Good news for Marsh came earlier this month, when he was named in the 25 contracted players by Cricket Australia. The exclusion of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-Mathew-Katich-c90404 means that Marsh has an opportunity to get into the Aussie Test line-up as well.
The 27-year-old cricketer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Western-Australia-c865 expressed his love for the shortest format of the game but said that his real ambition is to become a high-class Test cricketer.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-James-Marshall-c90362 said, ''Don't get me wrong, I love Twenty20 cricket and hopefully I do get to play Twenty20 cricket for a lot longer, but I want to be recognised as a four-day player and, hopefully, a Test player. That's what your peers really judge you on.”
The left hander made a name for himself in the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008, when he impressed one and all, representing the Kings XI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833.
His performances in IPL forced the Aussie selectors to give him an opportunity in Australia’s limited overs squad for the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, in the same year.
Till date, Marsh has played 33 One Day Internationals for his country in which he is averaging 36.62 runs per innings, including a couple of smashing hundreds.
The Western Australian batsman is thankful to the selectors who gave him the opportunity to prove his mettle, and said that it is about time that he proves himself as an international cricketer by performing consistently in all the formats of the game.
'I have been given an extended opportunity in one-day cricket but with my body not holding up I've been in and out of the team. It is time for me now to really stand up and be counted, to really cement my place in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 set-up,'' said Marsh.
