Shaun Marsh leads Aussie fight back against England in Hobart
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 staged a remarkable fight back in the second one-day international (ODI) match against England being played at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart.
The hosts were rocked by a brilliant opening spell from Ajmal Shehzad and Chris Tremlett, which left them reeling at 33 runs for the loss of four wickets inside the first 13 overs, before Shaun Marsh marked his comeback to the team with a brilliant hundred.
Earlier in the day Shehzad made the ball jag around causing real discomfort to the Aussie players. The first break through came when the centurion from the opening match in Melbourne, Shane http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 played the ball onto his stumps after making a mere five
runs.
The lanky Shehzad had more success coming his way when Brad Haddin went in a similar fashion to Watson, he departed for five runs too. The Aussies were rocked further with the dismissals of Michael http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 and David Hussey in quick succession.
By the time the score reached 33, four batsmen had returned to the pavilion cheaply. Marsh was joined by Twenty20 captain Cameron White, and the pair went about the task of resurrecting the innings with a positive frame of mind.
The two added 100 runs in their partnership, which was broken with the fall of White. The big hitter was dismissed caught and bowled off Michael Yardy for 45 runs from 76 balls. The Aussies were rocked further when Steve Smith became Shehzad's third victim.
He too was bowled off an inside edge without scoring.
Nathan Hauritz, who is making a comeback after months in the wilderness, was sent back cheaply along with pace ace Brett Lee. The Aussies were 140 for eight at that stage and the English team was confident of bowling them out before the 200-run mark.
However, the scenario changed completely when Marsh decided to go on the attack. He smashed the ball to all parts of the ground on his way to scoring 110 runs off 114 balls. His innings included 8 fours and a brace of sixes. He was ably supported by Doug
Bollinger and last man Shaun Tait as the hosts finished on 230.
The score is a fighting total considering the state of the track where the ball is jagging around however, it remains to be seen how the tourists go about the chase under lights.
