Australia’s top-order batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SE-Marsh-c2470, has tipped the mighty Aussies as favourites in the just to begin five match ODI series against Ashes rivals, England, commencing at Lord’s, today, June 29, 2012.
Speaking to the media reporters ahead of the series opener on Friday, the 28-year-old left-handed batsman said that Australia vs. England, especially at the latter’s backyard, has always been a close and tough battle. However, he was confident the mighty
Aussies will return as the ultimate victors.
“Australia will definitely win,” predicted Marsh. “Australia have developed so well over the last 12 months and they have got a good mixture of young and experienced players,” he added further.
In the five-match One Day International series against England, the mighty Aussies will put their world number one ODI status on the line, as a 5-0 Poms series whitewash will allow http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026 and co. to dethrone them at the top of ICC’s ODI rankings.
But Marsh, who is currently in England, playing for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glamorgan-c784 County Cricket Club in the ongoing 2012 Friends Life T20 campaign, backed his countrymen to keep their number one world ranking intact.
“England is a tough place to play and this is a challenging series of one-dayers,” said the top-order batsman who has not played a One Day International for Australia since October last year.
“But http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 are ranked number one in the world for one-day cricket for a reason and if we play well enough we will win,” he added further.
The left-hander, who lost an Australian contract and selectors’ confidence after an unimpressive 2011-12 southern hemisphere summer, also has his hopes attached with emerging Australian pacers, James Pattinson and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Iftikhar-Ali-Khan-Pataudi-Nawab-of-c64075 Cummins.
“The English cricketing public are going to see two young world-class players coming through in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Pattinson-c1653 and Patrick Cummings,” said Marsh.
Pattinson, 22, made his ODI debut in April last year and has 12 wickets in his name from five appearances, while Pat Cummins has six wickets from four One Day Internationals.
“By this time next year when the Ashes are starting they will be a pretty fearsome attack,” he hoped.
Terming the pace duo as an “impressive pair”, Marsh hoped the English cricket fans would enjoy their game.
