Shaun Murphy aims to be part of England team next year: 2011 World Cup Snooker
Former world snooker champion from England, Shaun Murphy is disappointed he missed a chance to be a part of the English team in 2011 World Cup Snooker at the Bangkok Convention Centre in Thailand this year. The player now hopes that he will be in the team
next year and said that he would try his best to bring the title to his country.
The 28-year-old Murphy missed the opportunity being the representative of England in 2011 World Cup Snooker, as Mark Selby and Ali Carter grabbed more points than him in the rankings. Carter was just one place and 70 ranking points ahead of him to become
Selby’s partner in the event.
While speaking to the local media, Murphy said, “It did hurt and it was hard not being at the World Cup, especially missing out by such a small margin. It shows how important each match is and if I had won one of the PTC matches I lost then I would've been
in Thailand. I missed out on playing in the World Cup by 70 ranking points and in our game that works out at about one match here or there.”
However, Murphy believes he will take the disappointment of missing the world cup as a motivation for him and will try his best to be a part of England’s world cup team in next year’s event. He had a tremendous last season, winning a couple of events but
could still not make it to the team. He is hoping for a good run in the current season to achieve his target.
“People think this game is easier than it is and snooker's a global sport so anyone can beat anyone. I definitely want to be in the World Cup next year and represent my country so I must try harder,” added the Magician.
Murphy is now in Victoria playing in 2011 Australian Goldfields Open at Bendigo Stadium. He has played tremendously so far and has made it to the quarter-finals, where he will meet Matthew Selt or Stephen Hendry.
