Shaun Murphy all set to participate in 2012 Masters: 2012 Championship League Snooker Group 2
An outstanding performance from England’s Shaun Murphy in the Championship League Snooker Group 2 matches at the Crondon Park Golf Club in Stock has booked him a place in the 2012 Championship League Snooker Winners Group. The Englishman showed outstanding
form during his run in the championship final beating World Number One, Mark Selby, 3-0.
The former World Snooker Champion was not impressive in his group matches as he was able to win only three of his six scheduled encounters. However, due to his steady performance, he hit the second spot in the points table and set his semi-final clash against
compatriot, Mark Davis.
The semi-final clash was a Murphy show because the 29-year-old potter was all over the table throughout the match. Davis could not even score a single point against Murphy and received a whitewash defeat at the hands of former Welsh Open runner-up. The 2008
UK Championship winner outplayed his opponent by the score line of 3-0 after clinching three straight frames.
Murphy reached the final encounter against Mark Selby and beat him in the same fashion by winning all three frames easily. After winning the Championship League Group 2, Murphy feels he is now ready to take part in the 2012 Masters snooker event.
Speaking to the local media at the conclusion of the championship, Murphy said, “I’m chuffed, really pleased and this tournament is a great event in its own right. I’ve had four days of very competitive match practice and really feel sharp for the Masters
next week. It’s also nice to take the pressure off and know I’ve given myself a good chance of getting into the Premier League.”
The Harlow potter added, “It’s not right that people just think of this as a warm-up to the Masters as it’s a great event and all the players have been here have had a great opportunity to sharpen up. It’s very tough playing four long days in a row but it’s
a side of snooker you see more of with the PTC events and people are now playing multiple matches on one day.”
Murphy has successfully qualified for the 2012 Championship League Snooker Winners Group where he will be facing current Word Snooker Champion, Scotland’s John Higgins.
