Shaun Murphy beats Mark Selby to win Championship League Snooker Group 2 final – Snooker news
England’s Shaun Murphy has successfully made his way into the Winners Group of 2012 Championship League Snooker after winning the Group 2 final encounter against the World Number One, Mark Selby by the score line of 3-0. Selby, who outclassed the whole group
with six points before qualifying for the play-offs, was not able to unsettle Murphy at the Crondon Park Golf Club, in Stock.
The 28-year-old Selby was outstanding during his run in the group matches and clinched six match wins to hit the leading spot of the group. He was impressive against Australia’s Neil Robertson in his semi-final clash, as he ousted him by an easy score line
of 3-1. It seemed that he would outplay Murphy in the final but unfortunately, it was Murphy’s day to shine.
The Harlow potter, Murphy, had a mixed run in the group matches, as he could win only three of his six scheduled games. He defeated Mark Davis, Mark Williams and Stuart Bingham but tumbled down against Mark Selby, Neil Robertson and Welshman, Matthew Stevens.
The Englishman faced compatriot, Mark Davis in the semi-final and whitewashed him by 3-0. Murphy’s semi-final clash with Davis was an all-Murphy showdown at the Crondon Park Golf Club in Stock. He did not let Davis come at the table and pot even a single
ball.
The former World Snooker Champion completely outplayed his opponent with three straight frame wins by the score lines of 95-0, 136-0 and 84-0, after smashing throttling knocks of 95, 136 and 57.
The former Welsh Open winner nudged the World Number One, Selby, in the same fashion. However, the difference was that Selby scored some points but they were not enough to hold Murphy back. The Magician claimed three consecutive frame wins by the scores
120-22, 105-7 and 77-30, after pocketing impressive knocks of 120 and 82 in the first two frames to whitewash his opponent 3-0.
Now, Murphy has successfully placed himself in the 2012 Championship League Snooker Winners Group and the cueist will be looking forward to continue his dominating run.
