Shaun Murphy believes he performed well in the 2011-12 Snooker Season – Snooker Update
Former World Snooker Championship winner from England, Shaun Murphy had a mixed season campaign in the 2011-12 Snooker Season. He was able to claim a couple of important tournament wins during his run but overall his performance was convincing but not up
to the mark. The critics believed that the English potter did not play up to his standards while Murphy reckoned that he was fine in the previous season as far as his performance is concerned.
In his interview with Pro Snooker Blog, Murphy said, “I certainly think that all of the players are keen to do well in the majors. I did alright in the UK, nearly won the Masters, but lost in the first round in the World Championship which was a bit of a
bitter pill to swallow really.”
The Magician added, “It is a tournament that I have historically done very well in, I feel very comfortable there, I prepared very well for that tournament and I thought that I played a good match.”
Murphy began his previous season campaign with Players Tour Championship (PTC) Event 1 but lost in the first frame. The first major ranking event of that season was the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open where Murphy performed impressively and managed to hit
the semi-final stage. He was up against the eventual winner, Stuart Bingham who ousted him by 5-2.
The 2011 Shanghai Masters was another important event of the last season in which Murphy went to the quarter-finals but received another defeat this time from Mark Selby. He bounced back into the game in the 2011 Brazil Masters and was able to claim his
first major ranking title of the season after beating former World Snooker Champion Graeme Dott in the final by 5-0.
After that, Murphy failed to win another major title but did clinch some minor ones like PTC and Championship League. His only noticeable performance was in the 2011 UK Championship where he reached the quarters. The Englishman is hoping for a positive run
in the new season as he goes for the 2012 Shanghai Masters event.
It will be interesting to see what type of impact Murphy can make in the new snooker season.
