Shaun Murphy believes that less practice cost him 2012 Wuxi Classic match – Snooker Update
Previous snooker season brought a positive overcome for the former World Snooker Championship winner, England’s Shaun Murphy as he was able to claim some noticeable major ranking titles as well as some minor ones to enable himself to stay in the top potters.
However, at the end of the last season, Murphy was unable to perform up to the mark and tumbled down in the 2012 China Open and the 2012 World Snooker Championship.
Before going to the new snooker season campaign, Murphy had a break and was unable to practice at the baize which affected his game play a bit. Due to the lack of practice, he believes, he was not able to win any match in the first major ranking snooker
event of the new snooker season. He lost to the former World Snooker Championship winner, Ken Doherty in the first round of 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker event by the score line of 5-1.
While speaking to Pro Snooker Blog during an interview, Murphy said, “I had a lot of time off after the World Championship. I have tried something that I have never done before, I didn’t really practice at all before going out to China, I enjoyed my time
off. I do believe that at some stage in the season those extra few weeks off will pay dividends, having not gone back to the table so soon.”
He added, “In fairness it cost me at Wuxi because I just wasn’t ready. I had a few days out there practising in the practice room and really trying to cheat the system if you like.”
Despite a low performance in the 2012 Wuxi Classic event, the Magician continued his game in the next events and played tremendously. He reached the final encounter of the 2012 Six-Red World Championship but was unable to claim the title and lost to Mark
Davis by 8-4.
He made it to the quarter-final stage of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker event where he tumbled down against James Wattana by 4-2. He is now aiming to make an appearance in the 2012 Shanghai Masters snooker tournament and try to claim his first
major ranking snooker event title.
