Shaun Murphy happy with his win over Marcus Campbell in 2012 Australian Goldfields Open
Former World Snooker Championship winner from England, Shaun Murphy played outstandingly in his first round clash of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker event against the Scotsman, Marcus Campbell. Murphy was able to beat him by the score line of
5-4 after facing tough competition from the Scottish potter.
The clash was one of the most tussling games of the first round encounters which thrilled the snooker fans present at the Bendigo Stadium arena in Victoria, Australia. Murphy was quite happy after winning the game because this win will give him a lot of
confidence in the upcoming matches.
While speaking to World Snooker after his victory over Campbell, Murphy said, “I thought it was a really good game up until the break. I was pleased with every part of my game, it was just when I was tested at the end, at 4-1, I just couldn't do it. I know
I'm hitting the ball as well as I've ever hit it.”
The former champ added, “I'm really pleased with my game in the practice room, it's just taking it to the table when it matters and I've struggled with that.’
The Englishman was in a strong position from the first frame of the match and pushed his opponent 3-0 down in the first session firing tremendous breaks of 65, 55 and 78. At this point, it seemed that Murphy will sweep the table in the next two frames and
will get a whitewash victory over the Scotsman but it did not happen as speculated.
Scotsman grabbed his first frame victory when he took the fourth frame before the end of the first session to reach 3-1. Murphy clinched the fifth frame to take the scores at 4-1. After that, Campbell sprang back brilliantly in the second session of the
match and claimed three consecutive frames to pull level at 4-4. He pushed the game into the decisive frame where Murphy grabbed the match victory by the score line of 5-4.
It will be interesting to see how far Murphy can carry his winning momentum in the tournament as he looks like he is in good form.
