Shaun Murphy ousts Judd Trump in semi-final of 2012 Six-Red World Championship
With the finish of the quarter-final session of the 2012 Six-Red World Championship snooker tournament at the Montien Riverside Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand, four top potters of the line up made their way into the semi-final stage of the tournament.
These potters included the former World Snooker Championship runner up and the winner of the 2011 UK Championship snooker event, Judd Trump and the former World Snooker Championship winner, England’ Shaun Murphy.
Both English potters booked their place in the semi-final stage against each other after beating the World Number one Mark Selby and Welshman Dominic Dale respectively in the quarter-final stage. Trump played outstandingly against Selby to oust him in the third session by 7-5 while Murphy faced some strong resistance from Dale in the quarters but still managed to hit the victory with a 7-6 score line.
As far as the penultimate clash of the event between Trump and Murphy is concerned, the veteran potter and former champ, Murphy dominated the game from the beginning putting Trump in a difficult situation. He was unable to bounce back into the game. The young Englishman had no chance to capitalise during the game and dropped down by the score line of 7-2.
In his post match interview with World Snooker, Murphy said, “It was always going to be an open game as Judd is such an aggressive player. The problem is he could have beaten me just as quickly so it was important found my A game from the start and I was able to stay in top gear throughout. I came here three years ago and didn’t take things seriously at all.”
The former champ added, “I just got out of the group stages and no more. I stayed on for the final and realised what I was missing as Jimmy beat Barry Hawkins in the final.”
The opening session of the match was equally shared between both potters. However, after that Murphy did not leave any space for Trump to dominate him until the finish of the match. It will be exciting to see how far Murphy can carry his winning momentum as he builds up some confidence in his game-play with this tremendous victory.
