Shaun Murphy reckons Barbican Centre is the best place for the UK Championship: Snooker News
The World Number Seven, Shaun Murphy, is eager to get back on the green baize in York, as the UK Championship is returning to the Barbican Centre in December.
The 28-year-old, Murphy, who lifted the snooker’s second biggest title back in 2008 in Telford, told the media that almost all the professionals were delighted on listening the news.
Though Murphy never passed the third round in the Minister City, he said that he can’t wait to get back on the table.
“I never really enjoyed any real success at the Barbican when I played in the UK Championship at York,” he told The Press. “All the players love the tournament at York and love the Barbican as a venue. I remember it being a good venue. It has undergone some
refurbishment so I can’t wait to come back and see it. I can’t wait to get stuck in and, hopefully, have some success at York.”
Murphy, who is also known as the Magician, was questioned by the media if he has any mixed feelings about the Championship moving from Telford because he lifted the Crown over there, he replied “Anywhere you go back to as a past winner is great but the UK
Championship is a big enough tournament that it wouldn’t matter where they played it.
“I think all the players – we’ve nothing against Telford – if they had a straight choice between Telford and York, York would win every time.”
The Englishman, Murphy, who is among a few players who have both the World championship and the UK championship, also expressed his feeling for the game. He said he feels very proud of being a part of this stylish game.
Murphy, who also won the first PTC Grand Finals recently, said that for the first time in his life was able to call himself as a complete professional, as most of the players go in there with a wrong attitude.
The Whirlwind, Jimmy White, a six-time Crucible finalist, is also among the players who consider that the Barbican Centre is the only second place after Crucible Theatre.
