Shaun Murphy struggling to get out of bad form: 2012 Australian Goldfields Open
After putting up an excellent snooker display at the Bendigo Stadium arena in Victoria, Australia, the former World Snooker Championship winner from England, Shaun Murphy was able to beat his opponent, Scotland’s Marcus Campbell, by the score line of 5-4
in the opening round of the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open snooker tournament.
Clinching first win in the tournament has given a bit of confidence to the Englishman and he will be looking forward to make it better in the upcoming matches. However, the Magician has been struggling with his performance from the final proceedings of the
last season.
Even in this new season, he crashed out of the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament failing to make an appearance. Nevertheless, he came back in business during the 2012 Six-Red World Championship and made his way into the finals. He is still fighting back
to gain his form.
He spoke to World Snooker, “We're not machines, and I think people forget that sometimes, we're humans and we all suffer from nerves and a bit of trepidation and a bit of worry. No one likes to go on a losing run, if winning's a habit, then so is losing
and I've been in a bit of a losing habit recently.”
The Englishman added, “Albeit I did well last week at the Six Red event, but not in a ranking event and I was under a bit of pressure, all self-imposed, but I felt it and I was lucky I didn't crumble.”
The first session of the match finished in favour of Murphy as he cruised into 3-1 lead at the end. Before he could do more damage, Campbell bounced back into the game with impressive snooker genius and claimed three straight frames to pull level at 4-4.
The match was dragged into the decider frame where Murphy claimed the victory and hit the second round line up.
He spoke to World Snooker about his victory and stated that the game was really good until the break and he played up to the high-quality standard not making many mistakes. He added that he was nervous in the end as it reached 4-1, 4-2 and then 4-3 but he
managed to get the victory.
