Shaun Murphy whitewashes Judd Trump in the semi-final – 2011 Premier League Snooker
The Magician, Shaun Murphy, who is a former 2005 World Champion, has whitewashed the rising star Judd Trump by a frame score of 3-0 in their best-of-five frames semi final match of the tenth event of the 2011 Premier League Snooker.
This event was concluded at the Grimsby Auditorium in Grimsby, England.
It was an outstanding performance from the 29-year-old Murphy as he knocked in back-to-back century breaks to shrug off his opponent in just 31 minutes. The overall score-line between both players was 75-1 (Murphy 46), 122-0 (Murphy 122) and 111-14 (Murphy 100).
In the opening frame, Trump was the first one to be among the balls but he broke down after rolling in just one point. A few safety shots were seen afterwards before Murphy drew the first blood 1-0 with a modest break of 46.
The second frame was over within a blink of an eye as Murphy, who was looking slow otherwise, fired in an overwhelming break of 122 to further extend his lead by 2-0.
Trump, who was left down by two frames with three to play, did get a chance in the third frame but snooker did not come for him as he blew the golden opportunity after gathering 14 points. Murphy on the other hand compiled another century break of 100 to seal his win.
Murphy was excited upon performing so well in front of a 900-strong crowd and after the match, he shared his feelings with the media.
“I feel like the manager of a Premier League team in relegation zone; I’ve done our bit but it’s not up to me now. I played in the PTC in Belgium last weekend and played poorly lose to Michael Holt but it’s a fickle game and form comes and goes,” said Murphy.
Shaun Murphy has now set up a mega showdown with the former three-time world champion, Ronnie ‘The Rocket’ O’Sullivan in the final.
It is certainly going to be a tough final for Murphy because O’Sullivan also whitewashed Jimmy White by a frame score of 3-0 in their semi-final match. However, let’s see if Murphy can really beat O’Sullivan in the final.
