Shaun Pollock casts doubts on South Africa’s Test supremacy - Cricket News Update
Former captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shaun-Maclean-Pollock-c89847, said that South Africa would find it “tough” to dominate Test cricket, despite their recent successful run, which propelled them to the top of the world rankings.
Pollock believes that future assignments in the sub-continent and Australia would really test the mettle of the newly crowned champions. "It's going to be difficult when we go to the subcontinent," said Pollock.
South Africa had mixed results in India however, as an overseas team; they have fared well as compared to their contemporaries. In their five Test series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, they won one, lost twice and drew both of their previous series in 2008 and 2010.
The former spearhead believes that the Proteas have a weapon in their bowling armory in Imran Tahir, who is learning fast and could play a key role, if South Africa wants to extend their reign as Test champions.
"Leg-spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-c64193 Tahir is learning his way and until he's settled it will be difficult to dominate," the 39-year-old added.
Pollock, who is the leading wicket-taker for his country with 421 scalps in 108 Test matches, believes the Proteas first test will come in November, when they will tour Australia for a three-Test match series. The former skipper led his national side during
the 2001-02 Australian tour and suffered a humiliating whitewash.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 on their last tour. The former fast bowler reckons that both teams would have a strong pace attack, but the visitors might have an edge due to their experience and confidence from
recent victories.
"It's going to be hard, going to Australia later this year will be another big test. We're playing in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth, so that should suit our pace attack,” the former spearhead further added.
"But I don't know if one team will dominate Test cricket like the Australian side of the late 1990s and early 2000s did," Pollock concluded.
South Africa has an impressive away-record where they have yet to taste defeat since being beaten by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in 2006.They have lost just one of their last twenty series – the defeat coming against the Aussies.
