Cricket great, Shaun Pollock, has hailed the South African team for their consistency which has allowed them to reach the summit of Test cricket at the expense of England.
The Proteas secured a 2-0 series win on Monday after a thrilling 51-run victory at the Lord’s. The visitors condemned their hosts to their first defeat on home soil since 2008 and also broke their streak of seven successive home-series’ wins.
"They've shown that they can win all around the world," said Pollock. "They've got the ability and are a very settled unit.”
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 started off the series with an emphatic innings and 12-run victory at the Oval, the second Test was closely contested, but it never looked like heading for a result after rain delayed the proceedings on the fourth day at Leeds.
The third Test at Lord’s however, turned out to be a fascinating game of Test cricket as England fought hard to save the series, but fell short against a rampant Proteas attack, which bowled out the hosts in the final session of the series.
Pollock, who has twice toured http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 during the 1998 and 2003 series and has enjoyed considerable success with the ball, is well-aware of the English conditions, and reckons that beating Poms in their home conditions is a huge ask, especially given their
impressive record at home in recent times, which had led them to the top of the Test rankings.
"Being rated number one is obviously great but to come here and beat England, who were number one, to beat the team that's on the pedestal is the thing they'll enjoy the most,” the champion fast bowler added.
Lauding the captaincy of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GC-Smith-c1473, the former skipper was impressed with the inspiring leadership of the 31-year-old, who has kept the team together throughout these years. Pollock believes that the tourists capitalized on to their chances well, which
remained the decisive factor in their resounding triumph.
"They are a mature team now and they are very well balanced. Sometimes you can look good on paper but not produce. The key is that they've been able to produce in the key moments," the 39-year-old concluded.
