Shaun Pollock opposes Tom Moody’s suggestion of increasing number of foreign players in an IPL team
The Mumbai Indians mentor, Shaun Pollock has criticized Tom Moody’s suggestion of increasing the number of foreign players in an IPL franchise, saying that the lucrative league was designed to give opportunities to the local talent and not to the foreign
players.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 had earlier proposed to increase the number of imports from four to five but the former South African all-rounder is not in favour of having five foreigners in a team.
"Why would you want to change that. At the end of the day when you went to the auction, you chose your players based on the fact that you will need only four players. It wouldn't make sense to change it now," said Pollock while talking to the media reporters.
"The idea of the IPL was to discover some local Indian talent. The more opportunities they get the better for them," he added further.
Moody publicized his suggestions through a newspaper column in which he had written that since the number of teams featuring in an IPL edition had been increased to ten, the management should increase the number of foreign players in each side to five.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians are scheduled to play three games this week and Pollock hoped Sachin Tendulkar and his men would ensure victories in all the three games to earn a berth in the final four of the tournament. He, however, did add that they are not looking
too far ahead and are just taking it one game at a time.
When asked about the appointment of Duncan Fletcher as Gary Kirsten’s successor, Pollock said that he had never played under the Zimbabwean so it would be a little bit unfair to comment what type of coach he is. The South African, however, did add that the
key for the Zimbabwean to be a successful coach of India would depend upon how compatible he is with the calm and cool http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahendra-Singh-Dhoni-c73820.
"I have never played under Duncan…so it would be unfair for me to comment on what type of coach he is," said the Mumbai’s mentor. "It all depends on how he works with Indian skipper M S Dhoni and what sort of rapport he has with (Indian) players. I'm sure
he will give Gary a call and if Eric Simmons is involved they will come up with a plan."
Pollock hoped that the experience of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Duncan-c54739 with various international teams would help him be a pretty good successor of Kirsten.
