Shaun Pollock terms http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DW-Steyn-c1409 as greatest African bowler – Cricket News Update
Former South African skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dale-c52110 Steyn, is the greatest bowler the Proteas have ever had, claiming that the pace man is destined to outstrip his record of 421 Test scalps within a few years.
Pollock has heaped praise on Steyn in the backdrop of the latter’s outstanding achievement of 250 Test wickets, which he completed during a match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 at SuperSport Park last week. Steyn has become the second quickest bowler in the history of
cricket to achieve this feat after Australia’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dennis-Keith-Lillee-c53639.
The 250-wicket mark has earned Steyn a lot of praise from former Proteas players, including Pollock.
Talking to the media today, the ex-captain, who played 108 Test, 303 ODI and 12 T20I games during his international career, said, “There's for me no doubt that he's the best South African bowler that we've seen thus far - at least since readmission in 1991.
I didn't see any of the guys from way back, but his record speaks for itself.”
He further told, “His ability to swing the ball away with incredible pace is phenomenal and not something you'll find every day. The fact that Dale so nearly equalled Lillee's record proves his quality.”
Pollock hopes that Steyn will surely break his record provided he does not suffer from fitness issues in the coming years. “I'm convinced that Dale will crush the record, especially if he can remain injury-free over the next couple of years,” stated the
legend.
Steyn has been consistently performing well since the dawn of the calendar year. In the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Cricket World cup 2011, he steered his side to reach play-offs.
Under the supervision of two legendary coaches, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Allan-Anthony-Donald-c43680, the 28-year-old pacer is rapidly marching towards the peak of his natural game.
Since making his International debut in 2004, the right-arm bowler has played 49 Test, 57 ODI and 21 T20I games so far, grabbing 255, 86 and 29 wickets respectively in the three formats.
Cricket experts suggest that Steyn will register a new chapter in the history of the game if he continues as he is.
