Shaun Tait breaks down again as Ferguson eyes comeback
After an extremely impressive performance in the ODI series against England earlier in the year the tearaway Australian fast bowler, Shuan Tait, has broken down again as his awkward action takes its toll on his body once again.
"Shaun Tait underwent corrective elbow surgery this afternoon for a chronic elbow complaint and his return to cricket will be determined by the speed of his recovery from surgery", Cricket Australia's doctor, Trefor James said. The doctor went on to say,
"It is not anticipated he will be able to play within the next two months".
The fast bowler has had an injury plagued career and time and again he has broken down with knee or back injuries and this time it is his elbow that has caved in.
The news comes as a big disappointment for one of the fastest bowlers in international cricket, who clocked 100 miles against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in a T20 match in Melbourne in January. He repeated the dose to the English batsmen at the home of cricket Lords in the
fourth ODI of the series that the Australians lost 2-3.
He was also one of the architects of Australia’s impressive run in the T20 World championship where they were beaten by England in the final.
Tait was the joint second highest wicket taker in the tournament and made life tough for batsmen from around the world with his sharp pace and bounce as the batsmen looked for big runs in the instant format of the game.
He had a great time at the fast and bouncy Barbados wicket that offered him something extra and the pace man took full advantage.
Tait also had a decent run for his club team http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 last month with a win for the Chennai Super Kings.
Meanwhile, as Tait rests, the Australian selectors have another batsman to choose from when they shortlist players for next year’s One Day International (ODI) World Cup set to be played in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
Right handed Callum Ferguson, who was touted as a future star for the Australians has recovered from a knee injury and is set for a comeback in the limited overs squad for the World champions in the hectic international season.
The South Australian had a decent run for South Australia in the Champions League T20 tournament and is now looking forward to regaining his spot in the national team.
"I'm really pleased with the way the knee has pulled up", Ferguson said. He added that the game is the number one passion in his life. "I'm loving every bit of it, back playing with the boys and being in the dressing room again. I was going in to my first
real competition back and you're always a little bit nervous. But I've been thrilled with the way the knee has held up. It has been put through its paces pretty strongly over the last three weeks".
Ferguson has an impressive record for the Australians in the ODI format. The right hander has an average of 46 runs per innings from his first 25 matches.
"I felt like I was really making some great strides in the longer format just before I hurt my knee," Ferguson said. "I'd like to continue in that vein and help contribute to as many wins as possible in the four-day format. That means once you get a start,
getting on with it and making sure you go on and get a big score. That's something I want to continue to keep getting better at".
It remains to be seen if he gets his chance immediately yet one thing is for sure he has the pedigree to become another superstar to emerge from the nation of sporting champions.
