Shaun Wane seals a three-year deal with Epalahame Lauaki - Rugby League
The new head coach of Wigan Warriors, Shaun Wane, has inked a three-year deal on Thursday, November 3, with Hull's Tongan international, Epalahame Lauaki, along with the option of extending the contract by another year.
Sources have revealed that this is the first signing by the coach after he took on responsibility at Warriors.
The freshly signed player has competed for Tonga in World Cup 2008 and joined in with Hull in 2009. So far he has a total of 54 appearances along with five tries for Hulls to his credit.
While commenting on his recent uptake, Wane stated, "He is a tough physical player who can play at either prop or in the second row and I'm sure he will flourish in our Wigan system. His size makes him a threat to any side and he also has a great offload.
He will certainly add firepower to our squad for the forthcoming season."
The induction is viewed as a very crucial for Wigans, which is counted amongst the top Super League franchises. The basic reason behind the new recruit as explained by the coach is, the player’s physical strength, which is one of the contributing factors
in the decision made. His huge size is enough to scare away anyone in opposition and that is his trademark. Since the likes of the 27-year-old are hard to find, the coach pounced on the opportunity available to strengthen his side.
The player himself is very delighted with his latest deal with Wigans, which is acknowledged amongst the top franchises within the Super League ladder, who are the current Challenge Cup Champions and are well known for being the best supported franchise
across Europe.
Expressing his viewpoint on his latest move to the most successful Rugby League club of the world, Lauaki said, "I am really looking forward to be joining such a big name in the game as the Wigan Warriors. This is a great opportunity for me and I feel very
proud and honoured to become a part of the Wigan squad as the team look to build on their achievements of the last couple of seasons."
