Shaun White dominates Snowboard SuperPipe at X Games Aspen 2013
America’s Shaun White stole the show during the final of Men’s Snowboard SuperPipe Final to clinch the gold medal at the X Games Aspen 2013 in Aspen, Colorado, on Sunday, January 27.
Japan’s Ayumu Hirano was a surprise runner-up, taking home the silver medal for his superb performance, while Finland’s Markus Malin secured a spot on the podium as well to take home the bronze medal.
X Games Aspen 2013 had already featured plenty of mesmerising performance over the week, which the fans of winter action sports would surely be remembering for a fair amount of time. However, the immensely skilled snowboarders from around the globe told
it loud and clear to the crowd in attendance that the best was yet to come.
White, undoubtedly the best competitive snowboarder in X Games history, stamped his authority in the contest yet again.
The 26-year-old defending Snowboard SuperPipe champion set the bar really high with his very first run, posting a 95.00 on the scoreboard, but went on to surpass his first-run score by a comprehensive margin, getting to a score of 98.00 points.
The winning run was pretty much the same, if not identical, to the run he had landed last year for a perfect score, including a record-setting huge backside air above the walls of the pipe, breaking the record that he had himself set by a whole foot for
a six peat.
"I don't think I've ever been more focused and more in tune with what I'm doing physically as well as mentally," said White, a crossover star who has 15 X Games gold medals between snowboarding and skateboarding, including eight in SuperPipe. "Six years,
that's pretty heavy. It's going to be more uncomfortable next year when I'm going for the seventh. I like it; it's a pretty humbling title to hold. I'm proud."
Hirano, an eight-grader and an X Games rookie, proved wiser beyond his years as he earned a 92.33 off his second run to claim silver medal.
Malin rounded out the podium after putting on a really impressive Run 2 to earn a 91.33 for the effort.
