Shaun White to receive the National Ski Areas Association Industry Impact Award
Climbing fast to legendary status, the professional snowboarder and skateboarder Shaun White is without any doubt one of the most renowned athletes in action sports. He has been making
such a huge impact action sports that people are often compelled to compare him with the legendary pro-skater, Tony Hawk. His numerous achievements and the contribution to the progress of snowboarding have caught the attention of National Ski Areas Association
(NSAA).
NSAA made an announcement last month at Lakewood, Colorado, that it will be presenting the Industry Impact Award to White. The Award will be presented during the NSAA’s National Conventional
and Tradeshow, which will be held at the La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California, on May 5, 2011.
The Industry Impact Award acknowledges a person, business or other entity for their significant contributions to the ski and snowboard industry. The last award was given to Winter X Games
in 2009. Now after two years, NSAA is once again honouring someone with the award and this time White is the chosen one.
"For both his legendary athletic achievements and the tremendous exposure he has brought to the sport of snowboarding, Shaun's impact on our industry cannot be overstated, and we are truly
honoured to present him with this very fitting award," said NSAA president Michael Berry.
The 24-year-old Californian has raised the sport of snowboarding to an entirely new level with his remarkable competition performances and sensational riding. His impact on snowboarding
is simply is too great to ignore and achievements are too numerous to count. White, who is also known as 'The Flying Tomato' among his fans, has amassed 10 Winter X Games (WX) gold medals to date to become the athlete with the most WX gold medals in history.
He clinched his last gold at WX 15 by winning the SuperPipe earlier this year at Aspen.
To further add to his list of achievements, he has two Olympic medals in the halfpipe to his name, winning the first in 2006 Torino and second in 2010 Vancouver.
Every time he enters a contest, he pushes the level of competition to new heights with his arsenal of impressive tricks. His prowess in halfpipe lands him in the spotlight at nearly every
contest and makes him the force to be reckoned with. Indeed he has become an icon for the younger generation, motivating them to get involved in snowboarding and terrain parks.
White has also played a significant role in bringing exposure to snowboarding. His association with Burton, Target, Oakley, Stride, BFGoodrich Tires, Ubisoft and Park City Mountain Resort
had played a vital role in bringing the sport into limelight. His business relationships with the above mentioned brands, entities and resorts have made him the second most marketable professional athlete, just behind Indianapolis Colts’s quarter-back Peyton
Manning, according to Bloomberg BusinessWeek rankings of the 100 most marketable athletes in sports. He has beaten the likes of Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Lance Armstrong and Roger Federer and Kobe Bryant to rank second.
White’s selection for the Industry Impact Award by NSSA seems completely justified. He has earned every bit of honour and recognition through years of remarkable performances and redefining
snowboarding through his arsenal of new tricks. It was indeed a matter of time before NSSA, an association whose primary objective is to stimulate and promote grown in the ski and snowboard industry, would have recognised his efforts and honoured him for it.
