Shaun Wright-Phillips: Carlos Tevez will inspire Manchester City against Chelsea
Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips has insisted that his team captain Carlos Tevez can inspire the team to victory when they meet English Premier League leaders Chelsea on Saturday.
The sides’ clash marks a big test for City’s title hopes, and Wright-Phillips believes that his side can overcome the formidable challenge his former club poses with Argentina striker Tevez acting as the motivator for the success.
Tevez was key to City’s success against the Blues last season. City triumphed in both of their matches against Chelsea, with Tevez netting three times across the games, and Wright-Phillips sees no reason why history cannot repeat itself.
The England international told The Sun, "Last season Carlos gave them a really tough time. And he's going to do that again, definitely. He's really settled in at this club now. Carlos and all of us are going to be trying to do the same to them this
time."
Wright-Phillips added that being handed the captaincy had given Tevez an increased sense of responsibility. He said that, "The lads are really enjoying having him as captain and he's enjoying it. He's quite different and quite funny. But the main thing is
he really looks out for the lads. If we need things doing, he gets it sorted and that's a positive thing."
Meanwhile, Wright-Phillips’ teammate Nigel De Jong has called on the club’s fans to spur the players on to a big win.
He told his club’s official website that, “The fans can do a lot for us. That will be a big help and we expect a lot from them tomorrow. Everybody knows what happened last season. It was a special game for the club and the players. We are all looking forward
to playing this game.”
