i swim competitively for a Y-associaciated team, so the cut for 50 fly at long course nationals is 28.43 seconds(25yard pool). My time is a 29.09. im newly 13, which means that in competitive swimming, i can't swim 50 fly anymore. My only chance to make the cut is to do time trial, take one of my split times in my 100, or do it at the county meet this summer. Is there any ways that I can take a half a second off my time before August 8th(that's when nationals are)???????

  1. I'm a little confused by what "nationals" you're talking about -- and why there is a national cut for an event you are "too old" to swim. What am I missing?

I don't want to freak you out, but you are at a very pivotal age. Thirteen is an age where many girls' swim careers start to take off, but just as many promising careers start to fizzle. Don't be one of the girls who looks back forever to the time she was 12....

My advice is to not look back at the 50, but to look to the future -- of 100s and 200s. Focus your time on santioned events so you don't have to burn psychic energy on time trials, split times, etc.

  2. im 13 and i am the 3rd in state for fly.  my long coarse is a 27.  not off the start use a very power dolphin kick but dont make them close togather spread them out but make them fast.  the guess wen ur comeing into the wall.

  3. If u want to be good at 25's do 50s, if u want to be good at 50s, do 100s, if u want to be good at 100s, do 200s. that's my advice and i works. in one season i cut of about 4 seconds on my 50 fly. it works
