Stoke City defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryan-Shawcross-c31996, has been included in England’s 24-man squad for the World Cup Qualifiers.
The 25-year old, who was initially overlooked by manager Roy Hodgson, received the call-up on Thursday for the Three Lions upcoming fixtures against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Poland-c2983 later this month.
If the defender gets the opportunity to feature in any one of those games, he will become the first Stoke player in 28 years to represent the national team.
The last Potters player to have played for England was Mark Chamberlain way back in 1984.
While speaking to the reporters during an interview, Shawcross unravelled his excitement over finally breaking into the Three Lions fold.
Earlier, the former Manchester United player was approached by Wales manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wales-c3041 instead of England. Shawcross refused to do so, as he was more interested in pursuing an international career with the latter.
Upon getting selected in Hodgson’s squad, the player is reported to have said: “I'm delighted to be selected again. The manager broke the news to me on the training ground this morning, so I'm really happy and looking forward now to joining up.”

He said that the international call-up was a reward for the all the hard work that the player had put over the years, and was confident that he will be able to stake his claim in the team.
He also extended his felicitation to Shawcross and his family, and believed that it was a huge moment also for Stoke City.
“He's still only young but he's captain here and the other lads respect and look up to him. I am delighted for Ryan and his family that he has received this call-up but I'm also delighted for this club. It is the first time since 1984 that a Stoke City player
has been called up for a competitive England squad,” he added.
