Shawn Jordan: I am ready to counter Cheick Kongo’s every strike and move – UFC News
Shawn Jordan, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira’s substitute for bout against Cheick Kongo, remarked that the bout and the fight card is still great, adding that he is excited on making his UFC debut against a belligerent like Kongo and will counter anything the
French brawler will throw at him.
Jordan who will make his UFC debut against Kongo at UFC 149 is basically a substitute for Antonio who pulled out of the bout due to an inadvertent injury sustained in the training session.
The duo will meet on the fight card headlined by the much anticipated bantamweight title bout between Urijah Faber and Renan Barao. The showdown will be co-headlined by the non-title bout between Tim Boetsch and Hector Lombard.
The main card will be televised live from Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on July 21, 2012. Jordan, 27, is a surging American heavyweight prospect who has been in a total of 16 mixed martial art bouts.
The Louisiana proud is basically a knockout pounder who has collected nine of his total 13 wins by knocking the opponent out cold. Shawn, also known as ‘The Savage’, possesses decent submission ability as well as he has nailed three of his opponents by making
them submit.
During the media interaction, Shawn shared his excitement on making his debut against a powerful and talented pugilist Kongo. Jordan stated, “I'm really excited about (fighting Kongo). Both of us are big, heavy-handed heavyweights. It only takes one punch
to end these fights.”
When asked as to how he feels on colliding with a heavily experienced brawler, Shawn commented, “I'm ready for and have been training for all of it. I'm good with whatever Cheick Kongo wants to bring to the table. I'm ready to compete, and I have some stuff
I'll bring to the table, too. He's fought everybody in the sport, so I'm sure he's going to be a guy who's a little more savvy. And that's another part of having great training partners that are able to do that so they know what you're doing and you work harder.”
The odds are definitely in favour of Kongo who will enter his career’s 27th bout, boasting 17 wins. Cheick is also a knockout specialist and has pinned 10 of his opponents by knockout therefore the bout will be a tough test for debutant Shawn.
Jordan needs to keep himself away from Kongo’s long reach otherwise the bout might end in the very first round. Kongo has a four inch height advantage over Shawn which will enable the Frenchman to throw his powerful jabs from quiet a substantial distance.
