Shawn Lawrence fails to qualify for the 2011 Berlin European Games
Scottish swimmer, Shawn Lawrence appears fourth in the 50m freestyle and fails to qualify for the 2011 European championships in Berlin.
The Balloch swimmer missed his final qualifying chance after losing his berth at the British International Disability Swimming Championships.
These championships also served as platform for disable swimmers to compete with each other for proving their qualification at the upcoming European Championships.
Despite of his personal best efforts, Lawrence failed to survive the promising swims of 13 times Paralympics champion, Clodoaldo Silva of Brazil and other Paralympians including his team member Scot Jim Anderson and Anthony Stevents of Wales.
Nevertheless, Lawrence’s sponsors and Coaches are extremely happy with his effort. They said clocking a personal best time was Lawrence’s greatest achievement so far and they are proud of his performance. His coaches said that despite of the hurdles, which
include lack of proper training program, they are astonished with his efforts.
Furthermore, Bob McGauchey of Scottish Disability Sport awarded Shawn a gold medal at the West Scotland Federation Regional Championships. Whereas, medals to other disabled swimmers were also awarded along with Lawrence.
In addition, Lawrence has a chance to prove his talent at the Scottish Disability National Swimming Championships starting from June 30 as he qualified for the event. The championships will be a four day competition, where other world class swimmers will
also battle to secure a podium finish.
The season has started for the world’s elite, while Lawrence claims that he is prepared for the upcoming challenges and promises to provide more to met the expectations of his fans. Shawn is preparing himself for the International meet in England during
November and for another disability-swimming meet in Brazil during October.
After his tremendous efforts at the qualifying meet in Britain, Shawn has aroused the hopes of his coaches at the West Dumbartonshire Amateur Swimming Club and his sponsors, Royal Caledonian Schools.
Now, Lawrence ranks third on the overall ranking of International Olympic Committee for the 50m back-stroke event whereas the Scottish swimmer claims to improve his ranking during 2011.
