Shawn Marion, Kyle Lowry and Gerald Henderson the latest victims – NBA Injury Update
The Dallas had already been playing without big men Dirk Nowitzki and Chris Kaman this season and now, they have also lost winger
Shawn Marion for at least the next three games. The team announced that Marion suffered a sprained MCL in his left knee during Monday night’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers, which the Mavs won.
With the exception of Nowitzki, Marion was the only player left from the championship winning team of 2011. In his absence, Dahntay Jones or rookie Jae Crowder can claim the starting slot. Head coach Rick Carlisle admitted that
with Shawn out, things can get tough;
"Now we've got our two best players out," said Carlisle. "It's going to be challenging. We've got to step it up and do it collectively with high intensity and playing our game. It's not easy."
While Marion is expected to miss only up to a week for the Mavs,
Gerald Henderson of the Charlotte Bobcats could miss up to a month with a sprained left foot. Henderson, who was the leading scorer for the Cats last season, initially suspected that he had damaged a ligament and admitted that he was relieved
man once the medical tests showed only a sprain;
"It had potential to be worse where the injury was," Henderson told the Charlotte Observer. "It's pretty painful to walk on. It could have been broken. ... It could have been a higher degree of tear of ligaments; I could have had
surgery. Not anything like that. So I was happy to hear what he said."
Last but not the least, Kyle Lowry, the man who had pretty much become the heart and soul of the Toronto Raptors this season, has sprained his right ankle and had to leave game against the Oklahoma City Thunder
last night.
Lowry, who was traded from the Houston Rockets this off season, was leading the Raps with 23.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, seven assists and 3.7 steals in three games and should he be injured for a long time, the playoff hopes of the
Raptors are certainly done and dusted. The point guard was seen hobbling around in a walking boot after the game and the Raps would certainly be hoping that the injury is not severe. In Lowry’s absence, Jose Calderon is expected to play as the starting point.
