Game-4: Dallas Mavericks 112 – Oklahoma City Thunder 105 OT
Oklahoma City Thunder tipped off belligerently in game-4, as they outperformed the Dallas Mavericks with a 31-22 run in the first quarter, but the Mavs who looked tardy in the first shed their tardiness in the second period, put
up a better effort offensively and bridged the gap. Dallas finished the first half proceedings just five points behind the Thunder (54-59).
The Thunder didn’t let the Mavs to come in front of them in the third quarter as well. However, the Mavs who were within the range didn’t give up and notched the Thunder’s lead down, as Shawn Marion ignited a 17-2 rally with his
two successive free throws from the paint and with his last free throw of the period, he curtailed the shortfall to just two points (99-101), with just 39 seconds remaining in the final quarter. Dirk Nowitzki then pushed the game into overtime by hitting two
points from the charity stripe.
In the extra time the Mavs outscored the Thunder by using an 11-4 run and clinched a crucial 112-105 overtime win. The Mavs put the Thunder into 3-1 hole with this victory.
Marion scored seven points along with four rebounds, one assist, four steals and one block shot. During his 38 minutes stay on court Marion shot 5 of 6 from the free throw line and dominated the opposition from the paint.
Game-5: Dallas Mavericks 100 – Oklahoma City Thunder 96
Shawn Marion marshalled the Dallas mavericks as they managed to overcome the Oklahoma City Thunder in a 100-96 victory and with that won the 2011 National Basketball Association Western Conference Finals 4-1.
It took the Thunder time to get themselves together, before they rushed back from behind and secured the first quarter in their favour by 27-26. OKC carried the same momentum in the second quarter and at the halftime led the Mavs
by 55-52.
Dallas made the spurt in the third quarter and snatched the lead from the Thunder, but OKC quickly nipped the surge with some brisk retaliation and guided them in another quarter. Just when it seemed the Thunder were going to win
this game the Mavs made a furious comeback, as the veteran forward Marion lit the lamp with a layup on J.J. Barea’s assist and led the rally with his smashing 14 points, four of them came from the charity stripe.
Dirk Nowitzki swished one from the three-point range and put the Mavs in lead and Marion immediately further stretched the lead with a two point shot and a free throw. The Mavs won the game by a meagre margin of four points.
Marion led his side with 26 points, clutched eight rebounds, wracked three assists, made one steal and blocked three shots too. Marion logged in for 40 minutes during which he went 10 of 17 from the field and 6 of 7 from the free
throw line.
