Shawn Stefani takes home the Miccosukee Championship title as his second of the season
Shawn Stefani of the United States retained the lead till the end of the last round on Sunday, to bag the second Web.com Tour title of his career by winning the Miccosukee Championship.
The $600,000 tournament was being held at the Miccosukee Golf & Country Club in Miami, featuring some of the prominent names on the Web.com Tour.
In August, he finished two strokes better than Luke List and Russell Henley at the Midwest Classic, to earn his first victory on the tour.
Entering the final round of the Miccosukee Championship, the American had a solid six-stroke lead over Alistair Presnell and Christopher DeForest.
He got off to a shaky start, as he carded two bogeys and two birdies on the first six holes that he played. Thereafter, he gained some momentum and added another three shots to his scorecard for a three-under par 68.
In the meantime, Presnell, his closest rival on the leaderboard, carded a four-under par 67. However, it still was not enough to challenge Stefani on the top.
At the end of the tournament, Stefani recorded an impressive five-stroke victory over Presnell.
"To be honest I was not worried about the lead or protecting the lead when I started," Stefani said. "You expect someone to come out and play well and Alistair did just that. He played a really good round of golf today. Give him some credit for putting some
pressure on me”.
He added, “I just wanted to focus on playing well and experience what it was like playing with a lead in the final round”.
The victory also pocketed him $108,000 prize money, which moved him from the 16th position to the 4th spot in the Web.com Tour Official Money List.
With only two tournaments left on the Web.com Tour roster, the former Lamar University golfer is getting ready to play his rookie season on the PGA Tour in 2013.
"Getting my PGA TOUR card means the world to me. ...It will be a dream come true for me to play on TOUR. It's the best TOUR in the world," said the American.
