Shay Given & Emmanuel Adebayor staying at Manchester City; Robinho passes medical, joins AC Milan
It is the deadline day for football transfer and there is hardly any time left before the 6 pm BST deadline when the transfer window shuts close. However, clubs are still trying tooth and nail to try and lure their preferred transfer targets in a last-ditch attempt to bolster their squads.
Liverpool are in desperate need of a striker and are using Ryan Babel as bait as they are trying to woo Mario Gomez of Bayern Munich to come to Anfield on a loan deal, but his parent club is refusing to do any business on loans.
Meanwhile, it has emerged that Ryan Babel is now the centre of a tug-of-war between Tottenham and West Ham United, despite the Dutch international claiming on his twitter account: "Guys, guys, guys...I'm going nowhere...LFC (Liverpool FC) all the way...ynwa."
Both the clubs have made last-ditch attempts to sign the Dutch international. It is believed that Roy Hodgson is willing to let the striker go if he can sign a replacement in whatever is remaining of the transfer window.
Roy Hodgson is trying to reshape his squad and he does not see Babel as a long-term part of it and reportedly believes that it is the best time to cash in on him.
West Ham have been long term admirers of Babel and have offered a swap deal with Carlton Cole, while Tottenham also have turned their attentions to Babel after missing out on several key and big names.
Redknapp is very keen to add to his side’s attacking options before the close of the window, but time is running out and he is still out in the market.
Babel’s long term future at Anfield has always been in doubt as he has struggled to cement his place in the side and has struggled to get games regularly.
Any move now for the striker purely depends on whether or not Hodgson is able to get his hands on a striker.
In other transfer news, it has surprisingly emerged that the Manchester City duo of Emanuel Adebayor and Shay Given will be staying at Manchester City for the time being.
The pair has been linked with a move away from the City of Manchester Stadium and it was constantly reported in the media in recent weeks that both the players are weighing up their options of moving to rival Premier League clubs.
Tottenham have been associated with every striker that has been linked with a move away from his club and so is the case with Adebayor. Spurs emerged as a not-so-shocking target for Tottenham after the striker grew frustrated with the lack of opportunities that he was getting under the new regime of Roberto Mancini.
The arrival of striker Mario Balotelli seemed to be the final nail in the coffin of Adebayor, as it caused further unrest for the Togo International, but reports have now emerged that Emmanuel Adebayor, after talking to Roberto Mancini for one last time, has decided to stay at City and fight for his place in the side.
The same is the story with Irishman Shay Given, who in the presence of Joe Hart has been playing second fiddle to the Englishman and was linked with a move away from the club. However, it seems that Mancini has had some discussion with the player and has convinced him to stay at the club.
Meanwhile, Manchester City’s another discard, Robinho, who arrived in the Italian fashion Capital, Milan, for his medical for the Rossoneri, has passed the medical and has now been officially presented as an AC Milan player.
Robinho arrived at the Malpensa airport earlier in the morning and was taken straight to the Gallarate hospital for the necessary tests.
The transfer deal was concluded before the close of the transfer window. He has joined the Rossoneri on a four-year deal. The official announcement from AC Milan read: "AC Milan announces it has acquired player Robinho on a permanent deal from Manchester City. The Brazilian player has signed a four-year contract with the Rossoneri club."
