Shay Given hopes to leave Manchester City in January
Shay Given has reiterated his wish to leave Manchester City in the January transfer window.
The Irish international was replaced by young England goalkeeper Joe Hart at the start of the season and his appearances have been limited so far this season.
Given moved to Manchester City for a fee of £5.9m in 2009 and this season the player has only made two appearances for the club.
The goalkeeper admitted that he would probably have to move away from the club in January, so that he can play first team football on a regular basis.
Speaking to the press, Given said, “I want to be playing football and I have always said that, so hopefully something will happen in the New Year. It's frustrating and I have already said I'm not coping very well, to be honest."
Given will get some much needed match practice when Ireland take on Norway at the Aviva Stadium on Wednesday 17 November in an international friendly.
However, the player knows that Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is unlikely to hand the goalkeeper a start unless Hart is injured.
“My own personal situation isn't ideal as everyone knows and I have spoken about it in the past, so we will see what happens over the next couple of months in that respect," Given said.
Given is expected to have no shortage of offers, but Manchester City appear reluctant to sell the player to any of their title or Champions League rivals.
As a result, Given may find it difficult to secure a move and a loan deal may be the most likely solution for the goalkeeper and Manchester City. “I can't change the situation at the moment and I have got to just keep my head down and see what happens over
the next couple of months, I suppose," said Given.
