Shay Given looks to move out of Manchester City in January
Manchester City's out of favour goal keeper, Shay Given has confirmed the rumours that stated that he wishes to seek a move out of the Eastlands this January. The player said that if there was no chance of him fighting for the
number 1 jersey at City, then his best option was to look else where and let Joe Hart keep the job of being the shot stopper for the Manchester based team.
Joe Hart replaced Given as City's first choice keeper at the start of this season. Roberto Mancini stated prior to the season that Hart would be his first choice keeper this season and that is what has happened. Hart spent most
of the last season on loan with Birmingham and set a Premier League record for Birmingham when he went on to keep seven clean sheets in a row.
In a recent interview, Given was reported to have said:
"It's very, very frustrating. I know it doesn't matter what I do on the training pitch, I won't be playing at the weekend. If I'm flying around like Clark Kent in goals, I still won't play on Saturday. That can be demoralising."
"We'll see what happens come January and hopefully if the situation's the same I can go on loan and try and get some games in.”
"I've never said I want to leave Man City. I believe it's a big club that in the next couple of years is going to do big things. I want to be part of that but I also want to be playing football."
There will be a number of teams that will be looking to sign the keeper if he does happen to put himself out on the transfer market. The most prominent team that will be looking to sign the keeper are North London based team, Arsenal.
Arsenal have had their fair share of keeper disasters in the past and were looking to sign a new keeper in the summer transfer window. However no deal was confirmed between the team and any keeper and Arsenal are now stuck with
the same keepers that they had at the end of last season.
Manuel Almunia, so far has had a decent season with the team, he has not managed any trade mark bloopers and has not been the source of the problem for the team. This could mainly be because it has only been a month since the start
of the season, however giving the benefit of the doubt to the keeper, it seems like he might have actually got his head straight going into this season.
Whether or not Given decides to go to Arsenal, will only be seen in the future, nonetheless what can be said for sure is that Given is definitely on his way out of the Eastlands, this January. This will prove to be good for the
player on a personal level as well, since the more first team action he gets, the higher his chances are at retaining a spot in the national side.
