My friend is 13 and for the life of her she would NOT eat ONE vegetable. She's always hated them, every single type you could name, and eating them makes her vomit since she's not used to them. She takes vitamins to make up for the lost nutrients, but it's the roughage of the vegetables that she's losing. Without them she can't digest things properly, and she has episodes that are very painful where her digestive track will shut down for days on end. All of the doctors she's been to try to make her eat vegetables but she only eats tomato soup, Cheerios, and brownies. I have no clue what to do. Is there any other way to get some roughage in her system? Because it doesn't look like she's going to eat any vegetables at all.

  1. Fruit...and if she really does refuse to eat properly...try those fiberpills...chewable...they have different flavors and taste pretty good..

  2. I have an ex-friend who hates vegetables, he's a weenie, but he likes them covered in ranch dressing, carrots, broccoli, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers,  every vegetable you can name is good with ranch dressing

  3. give her fruit she doesnt hate fruit right that should help or make her drink V8

  4. eat fiber rich foods.. or take metamusul pill

  5. You could try juicing them, adding non flavored fiber powder.

Otherwise, I'd try getting her to eat them in things like quiche, so she sees it is not the veggies that are making her ill.

  6. Puree the veggies and add it in her food.  There's two cook books at the bookstore that you can get for her.  One example is to puree broccoli or squash and add it to a cake mix.  You're basically hiding the veggies from the "eye", but it's in the food.

  7. Buy "Deceptively Delicious" by Jessica Seinfeld.  It's a cookbook of mainly desserts, that all have veggies "hidden" in them.  My daughter made brownies with spinach, and they were wonderful!  No one could tell it was in there! ...  You can get the book on eBay or at Amazon.com

  8. i had this problem a few years ago, my mum used to offer me tiny bits of fruittt, she said if you eat something 17 times your used to t, and url like it. encourage her to choose a vegtable that looks nice to her, and get her to try it on a daily basis. Or the desire of growing your own fruit and veg can encourage them to eat there own creations, try growing your own?!

  9. Well, the person who cooks for her should definitely puree vegetables and add to food.  You can add to soups, stews, chili, spaghetti, gravies, meatloaf.  Spaghetti- try adding small diced carrots and celery.  This is your friend?  Then, you might not be able to cook for her.  Set an example-  let her see you eating your veggies-  how about offering her some carrots or whatever it is you're having for lunch/dinner?

  10. make a shake and put veggies in it

    muwhahaha

    then give it to her

  11. There are fiber drinks and additives available on the market she could take. This is really only a temporary solution - she can't live like that forever but it will help in the meantime.

But to address the larger issue - since she is refusing in the face of painful consequences it sounds to me like she may need some kind of emotional or dietary counseling and her parents should be involved.  There's all kinds of things we do thinking we're helping that may just make the problem worse. I would start by talking to her parents about that.

In a more normal situation - my husband didn't like veggies too much when we met and generally stayed away from them.  By cooking foods he'd never had before I was able to re-introduce him to foods in a way that he hadn't considered. Now he's more open to trying new things because he's had some good experiences to erase his biases. He still doesn't like everything he tries but at least he tries it.  Now there's a few foods he really likes that he didn't before.

  12. ranch is good and cheese sauce.

that is what i did to get my kids to eat them.

  13. Puree broccoli and put the puree in brownies

  14. I saw a commercial about the V8 juice that tastes like fruit juice but has all of the nutrients of vegetables...if she just hates the THOUGHT of eating vegetables, you could pour her a cup of that and just say it's fruit juice...she doesn't even like mild veggies, like carrots and cucumbers?
