She is quiet does not mean she is stupid?

I was at office party with my colleagues and boss. My other colleagues were talking about things they have to do. I was quiet. My manager suddenly said that if I was quiet doesnot mean I am stupid. I felt little awkward.

What does that mean...

Your boss defended you. You should feel glad. he understands that being quiet doesn't mean you got no brain. You just are too shy to say a lot to let other people know your opinions. When they were discussing work related subjects and you said nothing or made no suggestions or contributed to the conversation maybe one of the people there indicated that you say nothing.. and your boss said..''Well so what.. that doesn't mean she is stupid just because she is the quiet kind of person...you don't have to feel awkward. He knows your work and what your work is like at the job and he is obviously satisfied with what you do on the job so he knows you aren't stupid just quiet and he made that clear to the others.

On average, smart people are more introverted than people of average or below average intelligence.  However, obviously, this is not always the case.

It means your boss is stupid, mean, and thoughtless.  Look for another job!

If you wish to say anything to your boss about this, go to him/her (alone) and say that you really didn't think that his/her comment at the party was appropriate, and it really embarrassed you.  Could he/she please refrain from such comments about you in front of your co-workers in the future... thanks.

If that doesn't stop it... DEFINITELY find another job!

If it is said as a response to a remark, then it means just what was said, if it came out of the blue, then you need to ask yourself, was he trying to get involved with you, or trying to get you involved with what was going on around you ?

I think it means, if you don't voice out or anything, people will think your dumb(like at school, because they dont think you are smart enough so you are quiet and dont answer questions)

but in this case, you may be quiet but that doesn't mean your stupid/dont know anything.
