  1. My husband anddaughter don't eat early either-I used to make smoothies for her-milk, tropical (strawberry/banana/orange for instance) juice, a vanilla yogurt and a banana and a bit of sugar-she never knew what I dumped in there and always loved it. Her friends come over and thats what they always want in our kitchen-they don't realize how much "food" they are drinking and it helps solve the proble. Or those yogurt drinks and a piuece of toast or bagel does well too-

  2. UH,maybe she's not big on breakfast..... Yogurt,Granola,Cereal,Milk,Juice,Toast,P... sound good yet.

  3. There are several good responses here. For one thing, she might not be ready for food very early. This might have something to do with whether or not she eats a bedtime snack or if you eat dinner late. Remember their stomachs are a LOT smaller, so don't sweat the amounts and timing...maybe she's still full from the evening before!

The next point is she might just not be a breakfast foods girl. Pick something she really likes to eat (on the healthy side, of course!) and offer it in the morning instead of the usual cereal/eggs/toast thing. I have times when I just want a chicken salad sandwich or a tuna sandwich for breakfast instead of bacon or eggs.

Also some cut veggies and fruits might be what she wants. Be sure to include her in the choices like some others have said!!

Good luck! She'll be fine and so will you!   :-)

  4. This is one of those instances that your child's own body will tell her what to do. Assuming that your child is a normal child who has had normal growth and development up until this point, this is a battle that you won't win. You cannot force her to eat if she is not hungry. However, you also don't want to give in to her by offering him junk foods or foods that you don't approve of just to get him to eat something. Most people do need something in the morning in order to give them enough energy. However, there are some people who need only minimal amounts and who seem to function quite well. Since she is 5 (and in kindergarten?), I'm sure she is getting a mid-morning snack at school, so she goes only about two hours until she eats.

I would continue to offer her nutritious foods and allow her to eat until she is satisfied. If you know she is only going to eat a half bagel, then only make a half bagel for her and don't make an issue about her not taking anything more than that. You might want to talk to a nutritionist to get suggestions for high energy foods that she might like.

I think your best plan of action is to determine whether the problem is that she does not like the food being offered, or she is just not hungry that early in the morning.

If it's an issue of the types of food being offered, try thinking outside the box and offering some nutritious foods that are not "breakfast" foods. Healthy leftovers she loved the night before? Why not? Breakfast is not limited to the traditional foods, anything healthful and nutritious is fine, even though it is early in the morning.

As others have posted, try portable solutions. That can be a more casual approach than fighting at the table until plates are clean. Breakfast wraps, smoothies, bagels, whole fruit, juices, toast, are all pretty portable solutions.

  5. I'm not a big breakfast eater either. I'm not big into breakfast foods, but then I started eating bagels and flavored cream cheese.

She might like it better because its sweet.

    Good Luck!

  6. My oldest daughter hated breakfast too.  I just gave her a piece of string cheese to eat in the car, and a piece of fruit:)  Even a little baggie of nuts would be good.......  But, I would also make my daughters parfaits the night before, using fruit yogurt and granola or apple-cinnamon wheat germ, in about 3 layers each;  put into glass parfait dishes and refrigerate overnight.  They liked that because it was like eating dessert:)  ...  I wouldn't give her any supplements, unless you check with your pediatrician.  They're made for adults, and she might be getting an overdose of some vitamin or mineral, since, I assume, she also takes daily vitamins.......

  7. I don't like breakfast foods, at all.  However, for me, if I eat something first thing in the morning, I often will have pasta or a sandwich, because I enjoy those things, even though they're not typical breakfast foods.  You may want to try a peanut butter & jelly sandwich or even a ham and cheese sandwich.  It may be that she's not interested in eating what you offer, but if she refuses all food, it may be that she's not a breakfast eater.  If you're really concerned, talk to her doctor.  They may be able to shed some light for you.  It may not be as bad as you think if she doesn't eat breakfast, especially if she eats well the rest of the day.

    Good luck!

  8. I would make her a smoothie with her favorite fruit.

  9. Maybe she's just one of those people that can't stomach food first thing in the morning.  I'm exactly the same, I get up at 06:40 but my stomach is only ready for food at 08:30, yet my Mum is totally different, she *has* to eat upon getting up or she feels dizzy and actually passes out.

Maybe try giving your daughter breakfast a bit later on in the morning if that's possible or maybe whizz up a fruit smoothie for her to drink on the walk to school - if you get her involved in choosing the fruit that goes in it, it might stimulate her interest.

Also, it could be a texture thing.  I love the texture of porridge and oatmeal but the texture of sloppy mushy cereals lurches my stomach - it could be that she is put off by the texture rather than taste?

  10. ask her what she wants to eat. give her something tasty. I rarely ate breakfast and now when I'm finally free to get the food I want, I eat every morning. I switched to asian and bio food. its cheaper too.

I wouldnt take artificial supplements, I heard they are ineffective. look only for a natural thing.
