Shea Weber signs a 14-year deal with Philadelphia Flyers- NHL Reports
Shea Weber, an All-Star defenseman of Nashville Predators, has reportedly signed a new 14-year-deal with Philadelphia Flyers. A deal which is said to be worth at least $100 million, was broken out by TSN’s Darren Dreger, an insider of hockey.
TSN’s hockey insider tweeted early Thursday morning, that gave this breaking news that Weber has signed and many deadlines passed before this happened. Nashville Predators were working on a trade, Philadelphia Flyers were tired of it when they took the step
and made restrict free agent, sign the deal.
Darren Dreger tweeted,
“Breaking: Shea Weber agrees to offer sheet with Philadelphia. 14 years, upwards of $100 mil. Preds have 7 days to match. Wow!! Nashville was working on a trade and its believed several deadlines passed before Flyers grew tired of waiting. Weber signed offer
sheet.”
Nashville Predators now have got a week’s time to decide if they want to keep the player by matching the offer or they want compensation. They will get four 1st round picks from Philadelphia Flyers in return in case the deal does not work out
between Weber and Predators.
Dreger also reported that it be would interesting to see the financial terms of Weber’s offer sheet as he could make $26 million in one year. He also said that there were many teams involved in Weber trading scenario like San Jose Sharks, New York Rangers,
Philadelphia Flyers and Detroit Red Wings etc. He mentioned this in the tweet which said,
“Its going to be fascinating to see financial terms of Weber's offer sheet. Hearing in one calendar year, he could make $26 mil. I'm trying to go back to bed. More info coming in. Philly, NYR, Detroit and San Jose were big players in Weber trade scenarios.”
Thing that Nashville Predators would not like is, this signing has come just two weeks after they lost their other star defenseman, Ryan Suter to Minnesota Wilds. Shea Weber was also the Norris Trophy runner-up last season, for the 2nd time in
a row, as he lost to Erik Karlsson of Ottawa Senators after being NHL’s top defenseman. He had one year left, after which he would have become unrestricted free agent.
