The Tyneside great has been one of the most prolific English strikers, being both Newcastle’s and the Premier League’s record goal scorer. Shearer joined Newcastle in 1996, having almost signed for Manchester United. Shearer’s move to Newcastle brought the

Shearer retired from competitive football in 2006 and is hailed as the greatest English striker and a Newcastle legend.
Recently, Shearer spoke out on Newcastle’s exploits from last season and how the club can emulate its success in the coming years.
Shearer believes that expectations at Newcastle are the higher than what they’ve ever been in a long time and he insisted that the club needs to hold on to its biggest players if they wish to progress and challenge for titles.
After losing start players such as Andy Carroll, Joey Barton, Kevin Nolan and Jose Enrique last year, many began to doubt the club’s ambition and direction while other predicted a relegation back to the Coca-Cola Championship. Things did not look good for
the Tyneside outfit and it seemed as if the once great club would now be stuck in mediocrity.
Not only did Newcastle survive relegation but they finished in the fifth place, falling short of a fourth finish by just one point. The club played some of the most attractive and incisive football they’ve ever played and impressed analysts, rivals and fans
alike.

He said: “There will be expectation at Newcastle. That’s the way it works. For me, it will depend on what sums of money Newcastle spend. Or whether they keep hold of some of their top players. At the minute it’s too early to predict what is going to happen
at Newcastle. I hope they kick on because they had a great season last time.”
