Is it possible to cross a goat and a sheep?

  1. I've heard of them - they're actually called shoats, and are the result of an accident occuring in mixed herds that have both goats and sheep.  I've never heard of one surviving as they are genetically unable to survive and are stillborn.  

    Weird that the DNA is similar enough, though, to even allow for the egg to be fertilized and start developing.  I gotta say, though, that if one was to survive, that would either be the world's smartest sheep or the world's stupidest goat.


  2. You can only cross animals of the same species!

    One confusing "exception" is the donkey + horse = mule, which is sterile so it doesn't count anyway!

  3. They can be mated, but b/c of the different number of chromosomes between the species, their offspring are stillborn.
