Question:

Sheets for a newborn - what type?

Hello! We're due in December, and live in Minnesota, so it will be a COLD December. It's our first, and we're a bit overwhelmed - in a good way!

We're just now getting registered for everything, but we're a bit confused about what type of sheets to get.

There are cotton/organic/flannel/jersey blends... is there a type of sheet that is better than others for newborns? Anything we should stay away from?

Thanks in advance!

  1. Just get the regular type sheets. The baby will already be in a sleeper and probably be swaddled in a blanket. You don't need to worry about the sheets. Whatever you get will be fine. You probably don't want the flannel ones or anything that keeps the baby too warm. Both of my children hated being hot especially in the winter. They were in a normal swaddle receiving blanket in their sleeper and that was good enough for them. You don't want to over heat the baby. Go for the cheap ones! Good luck and Congrats!

  2. I always use cotton.   I live in Wisconsin..... so it gets cold here to.  The sheets really don't matter so much...... as for sheets..... the sheet is only the mattress cover..... they don't actually sleep in them.   I would worry more so about getting warm swaddling blankets....... or else just a warm bundle me sleeper.

  3. I think they all serve the very same purpose, it just depends on what you'd like. Maybe for the winter you could choose a warmer material?? I live in a cold weather city and I've always had regular cotton sheets & fleece blankets, those keep my daughter warm.

  4. I'd stick to cotton for lying on and would invest in a sleeping bag. This way your baby wont be able to kick the covers off and will always be nice and cosy.
