Sheffield City Council and Welcome to Yorkshire support 2012 World Snooker Championship
Two of Sheffield’s organisations, Sheffield City Council and Welcome to Yorkshire are supporting the 2012 World Snooker Championship.
Snooker’s most prestigious event, World Snooker Championship has been playing a key role in the economy of Sheffield city since 1977 when the first World Championship was organised here at the Crucible Theatre. Apart from that, World Snooker Academy in Sheffield
is also producing handsome revenue for the city from the qualifiers of every major ranking snooker tournament.
Sheffield City Council’s Creative Sheffield, with the slogan of ‘transforming Sheffield’s economy’, is the economical development hub of the city while Welcome to York is the Destination Management Organisation (DMO) related to tourism in Yorkshire, the
biggest county of UK. Both organisations are in full support of the 2012 World Snooker Championship as it helps boosting the city’s economy.
Creative Sheffield’s David Fletcher said to the World Snooker, “April really is snooker month this year in Sheffield with both the qualifiers and final stages of the World Championship being hosted here - we're as proud as ever to be the City of World Snooker
and wish the players all the best for the tournament.”
On the other hand, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, Gary Verity added, “Once again the eyes of the world are on Yorkshire and we are delighted to support the World Snooker Championship in the magnificent city of Sheffield.”
Meanwhile, the World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn has expressed that the championship will definitely put Sheffield in spotlight across the world and will attract millions of fans around the globe. He further added that the tournament will be the greatest
snooker show on earth and the venue will be house full because they have already got the biggest demand of tickets in the history of the tournament.
The 2012 World Championship will commence from April 21 at the Crucible featuring the likes of Ronnie O’Sullivan, John Higgins, Mark Selby, Mark Williams, Judd Trump, Shaun Murphy, Neil Robertson and Stephen Hendry.
All potters are ready to give the best of their skills in the tournament to take the world glory. Scotland’s John Higgins will be defending his title he clinched last year beating the young Englishman, Judd Trump in the final.
