Sheffield Shield: Klinger helps http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Australia-c844 to 207/6 at tea
South Australia (SA) reached 207 runs for the loss of six wickets against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Western-Australia-c865 (WA) at the tea break on the second day of a Sheffield Shield match at Perth.
The SA batsmen resumed the second session with 125 runs on the board and three wickets down. Michael Klinger was batting nicely in the first session and was unbeaten on 44 until lunch. He was joined by Aaron O’Brien at the crease just moments before lunch.
The pair would have hoped to build a solid partnership for their team and get closer to the host team’s first innings total. However, O’Brien failed to support Klinger and was out after just adding one run to the total.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daniel-Christian-c1308 then joined Klinger in the middle with his team struggling at 126 for the loss of four wickets. He didn’t last long at the crease either and departed after adding just two runs to the total, as SA suffered yet another blow after lunch. The
team looked in danger of being bowled-out well within 200 runs after the fall of two quick wickets in the second session of play.
Wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Manou-c1504 offered some resistance and constructed a solid fifty-run stand with Klinger. However, Manou failed to build on the start he got and was dismissed after scoring 25 runs. Klinger was then joined by debutant Nathan Lyon, who
earlier did a terrific job with the ball taking four wickets in the first innings. Lyon managed to stay at the wicket with Klinger until the end of session, as the pair put together an unbeaten 26-run partnership.
SA’s first-drop player Klinger didn’t panic at all by the fall of wickets at the other end and continued to score runs for his team. He played superbly and reached 85 runs until tea. Klinger balanced his innings perfectly and struck ten 4’s and one towering
6 in his total. He improvised whenever needed and rotated the strike throughout his innings.
However, there is a lot of work left for Klinger as his team still trail by 117 runs. He will be hoping to get support from the tail-enders and score as many runs as possible in the final session of the day. His team will be expecting a big century from
him.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ryan-Duffield-c2387 was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts as he took three wickets for his team. He will be looking to wrap things up quickly when play resumes.
