Sheffield Shield: Matthew Wade and Robert Quniey help Victoria earn a draw against NSW
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823 (NSW) after they were set a target of 450 runs on the final day. The match was played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
The wicket was very good for batting and it had eased over the course of the match. There was some movement with the new ball, but nothing too concerning for the batsmen.
NSW took a 153-run first innings lead and then batted well in their second innings, scoring 296 for the loss of five wickets by the end of the third day’s play. NSW Captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stuart-Clark-c2591 then declared the innings, but the decision came too late for his bowlers to bowl Victoria out.
The Victorian batsmen knew that the target was impossible to achieve and they started the final day cautiously. However, the team lost opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chris-Rogers-c1249 in the middle.
The pair frustrated the NSW bowlers and made sure they didn’t lose any more wickets until lunch. They kept on playing defensively and didn’t try to score runs at all. However, Rogers didn’t last long in the post-lunch session, and became the second victim of the NSW bowlers in the day. Rogers scored 32 runs off 110 balls before he lost his wicket.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ryan-Carters-c2386 was the next man in for Victoria and he continued where Rogers had left off. However, Carters wasn’t able to carry onto the start he got and was dismissed for 17 runs off 64 balls. His dismissal was followed by that of Finch, as the Victorian captain lost his focus and got out just before tea. Finch was out after amassing 44 runs from 159 balls and NSW realised they had a chance in the match.
Wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Matthew-Wade-c1933 and Robert Quiney didn’t waste too much time and played aggressive cricket in the last session of play. Both scored half-centuries for their team and remained unbeaten on 77 and 67 respectively. Before play was called-off by the umpires, Victoria had reached 252 for the loss of four wickets.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Trent-Copeland-c2709 was the pick of the bowlers as he took two wickets for his team, but his effort wasn’t enough as the match ended in a draw.
