Queensland added two points to their Sheffield Shield account from their drawn four-day match against Victoria Bushrangers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, but ended the battle four wickets short of victory.
The home side was set an improbable target of 339 runs from just 55 overs on the final day of the Sheffield Shield clash at MCG after the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834 Bulls declared their second innings at 190 for 2 during the middle session of the
4th day. And the tourists, despite having a well-built bowling armoury being led by right-arm pace bowler Ryna Harris, the Bulls could not get through the lower order of Bushrangers.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Victoria-c859 Bushrangers, being led by Cameron White, finished the final day of the match at 142 for 6. David Hussey top scored for Bushrangers’ second innings with 65-ball 48, an innings that was laced with six muscular boundaries
and two lofty sixes. Hussey was followed by Aaron Finch’s 32 of 77 balls. Harris, who finished the first innings’ in the field with 4 for 41, claimed two wickets second time conceding just 27 runs in his spell of 13 overs making the match figures 6 for 68.
The Bulls spent a major part of day four batting the hosts out of the match, with Chris Lynn returning unbeaten at 77 and opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wade-Townsend-c2774 not out at 72. The rain-ruined draw has left the defending champions, Victoria Bushrangers,
struggling at the bottom – just above http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Western-Australia-c865 while the Bulls are on the top of the season’s Sheffield Shield points table. After having played 5 matches, the Bushrangers have won just one, lost two and an equal number was drawn.
Ryan Harris’s remarkable performance against the Victorians was well rewarded today when he, along with seam bowler Doug Bollinger, was named in the 13-man preliminary squad for the second Ashes Test to be played at Adelaide Oval on 3rd of next
month. Like Queensland, the national side also struggled for wickets against England in the opening Ashes Test played at Brisbane’s Gabba ground.
