Sheffield Shield: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Western-Australia-c865 struggle against SA until tea
Western Australia (WA) reached 225 for the loss of six wickets against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Australia-c844 (SA) until tea in a Sheffield Shield match in Perth.
It was a sunny day at the Western Australia Cricket Ground (WACA) in Perth, and the pitch was good for batting. The captain winning the toss was expected to bat first, which is exactly what WA Captain Marcus North did.
The start to the innings wasn’t a good one for WA as they lost both their openers early. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marcus-Harris-c1897 scored 17 and 14 runs respectively and both were dismissed with the total at just 31. With two wickets down so early, the team needed a
special effort from the first-drop player http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Luke-Pomersbach-c1856 and captain North.
The pair didn’t disappoint their team and constructed a solid 73-run partnership for the third wicket. However, North just lost his focus at the brink of lunch and gave his wicket away. He scored 24 runs off 58 balls and struck four 4’s in his innings.
Until lunch, WA had reached 104 runs for the loss of three wickets, but the important thing was that Pomersbach was playing well on an unbeaten 48 runs. The first session certainly belonged to SA as they took three crucial wickets on a flat batting track.
However, Pomersbach continued to play brilliantly after lunch and scored a tremendous half-century. He got good support from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Voges-c925 as the pair amassed a 44-run partnership.
Voges also failed to capitalise on the start he got and was dismissed after scoring just 20 runs. WA suffered a major blow when Pomersbach was out after playing a splendid innings of 82 runs. However, he would have been disappointed after missing out on
his century. Tom Beaton was also not able to score too many runs and got out for 26 runs.
All eyes will now be on wicketkeeper batsman Luke Ronchi, who was unbeaten on 33 until tea. Most of the WA batsmen haven’t been able to capitalise on their starts, but Ronchi will be looking forward to take his team past 300 runs.
Nathan Lyon was the pick of the SA bowlers as the debutant took three wickets in the match for his team. Apart from him, Peter George, Rob Cassell and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jake-Haberfield-c1629 grabbed one wicket each for SA. The final session of today’s play will be crucial for both
the teams and some early wickets for SA will ensure a positive day for them.
