Dave Perry, the assistant manager of the Sheffield greyhound track was mystified on Tuesday night as to the cause of a starting trap failure, the trap failure led to the 8.47 contest being declared void.
The traps opened a very small amount with the hare still 20 metres behind, which led to the dogs trying to force their way out, the traps eventually opened fully once the hare had passed but it was obvious the race was to be voided.
What left Perry mystified was the testing after the race, the traps showed no signs of irregularity, so the races continued for the night.
